The Late Life Vice President – Mr Ken Irvine GM
22nd May 2022
It is with great sadness that I announce that my dear friend Ken Irvine passed away on 23 May after a spell in hospital. Ken and I joined the League at the same time when the DCM League opened up to recipients of the GM. We then joined the committee at the same time and once I was elected President in 2008, Ken was my right hand man and mentor on all League matters and helped the committee immensely. He was both thrilled and honoured when the League appointed him Life Vice President in 2018 for his long standing support to the League and the committee.
Ken had been ill for several years yet thought it his duty to attend the AGM, Musters and committee meetings at Didcot for as long as he could. As his attendance waned, we spoke on the phone at length most days and I visited him at Ashbourne House during a break in lockdown in August 2021. I spoke to him the day after the AGM to provide a back brief and he was still interested in the proceedings, who was there and the detailed plans for our London Muster, continuing to share his advice on how things should be run.
Our thoughts are with his daughter Janet and the three remaining generations of the Irvine family, many of whom we have met at League events.
Rest in peace dear friend.
