Memorial to Ken Howorth GM

On 29 June, the Police Memorial Trust will unveil a memorial plaque at the site on Oxford Street where Ken Howorth was killed on 26 October 1981 whilst attempting to defuse a bomb left in a restaurant by the Provisional IRA. At the time he working as an Explosives Officer for the Metropolitan Police. From Lancashire, Ken had previously served as an Ammunition Technician in the RAOC until 1973 with overseas service in Austria, Japan, Libya and Hong kong. He was posthumously awarded the George Medal for his actions that day. The President will attend in an informal capacity however any other members of the League may also wish to attend. The short ceremony will commence at 1000 hours. Anyone planning to attend should let the Secretary know soonest and we will meet at Tottenham Court Road tube station no later than 0945 hours.
