I am delighted to report that at the AGM held at Windsor on 14 April, our Vice President, Mr Ken Irvine GM was unanimously elected as a Life Vice President, joining Mr Dougie Covill MBE DCM who was awarded that appointment over 20 years ago. This appointment is in recognition of his long and dedicated service to the Gallantry Medallists’ League and in particular, to the Committee.

Ken was a policeman with the Manchester City Police and was decorated for his actions at Moss Side, in June 1965. As he was chasing a suspect, the man attacked him and stabbed him in the chest. Amazingly, Ken held onto the man and pulled the knife from his chest. With a colleague, Ken managed to arrest the man and despite his injuries, was able to hand him over to the custody of other officers.
